Your glasses help you read comfortably, recognize faces, and enjoy the details around you. But even when everything looks clear, you may wonder: “How healthy are my eyes?”
That question deserves attention alongside your prescription. At Lakeside Vision & Optical, we help adults in Plano see the bigger picture through personalized eye care. Retinal imaging adds a view inside your eyes, giving your doctor information to consider alongside your health history and other examination findings.
Clear Vision and Eye Health Go Together
Finding lenses that suit your vision is an important part of your visit. Our boutique optical offers designer eyewear and high-definition lenses to help meet your everyday visual needs. Examining your eye health serves another purpose: understanding what is happening beyond the view through your glasses.
A comprehensive eye exam looks at your vision and eye health together. Your doctor considers your medical history, medications, family history, and any concerns you bring. Seeing clearly is encouraging, but it does not answer every question about the health of your eyes.
What Does a Retinal Image Show?
The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. Retinal imaging creates a digital picture that your doctor can examine and keep as part of your health record.
We offer Optomap retinal imaging, which captures a wide view of the retina, including areas toward its edges. During the image capture, you may notice a brief, bright flash.
The picture also makes the conversation more tangible. You can ask your doctor to explain what you are seeing and which areas matter for your care. Seeing an image of your own eye can make an unfamiliar test easier to understand.
How Images Support Your Doctor’s Assessment
A retinal image gives your doctor information to interpret in context. Your symptoms, health history, examination, and other tests all contribute to the assessment.
For example, glaucoma care involves evaluating the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain. Eye pressure measurements and, when indicated, visual field testing help your doctor assess different aspects of eye health. One photograph cannot provide all those answers.
At Lakeside Vision & Optical, glaucoma care is among our services. Dr. Deborah Moon is an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist, bringing that expertise to patients who need evaluation and ongoing management.
Why Keeping Images Can Be Helpful
An image taken today can become a reference point for future visits. Comparing pictures over time helps your doctor assess whether an area appears stable or has changed.
That comparison can be especially useful when monitoring an existing finding. If something needs a closer look, your doctor can explain whether additional testing or follow-up is appropriate. Imaging supports those decisions; the clinician’s interpretation gives the picture meaning.
Will You Still Need Dilation?
You may. Retinal imaging does not replace every examination or always remove the need for dilation. Your doctor may need to examine an area more closely or obtain a different view than the photograph provides.
Dilation uses drops to widen your pupils so your doctor can examine the back of your eyes. Your symptoms, risk factors, and findings help determine what is appropriate for your visit.
Leave With a Plan That Fits Your Eyes
Before you leave, ask what your results mean, whether more testing is needed, and when you should return. Share any changes you have noticed, even if your glasses still work well.
